You Catch More Bees with Honey in Severance Negotiations

In this practitioner's opinion and experience, you catch more bees with honey than with vinegar in severance negotiations. Meaning that when severance negotiations take on a friendly and positive tone, you are more likely be sucessful in negotiations than if you take a hostile and adverserial tone. Again, that is just in my opinion and experience at least.

A congenial tone also helps avoid any bad feelings that may cause an employer to revoke a severance package offer when an employee's lawyer is attempting to negotiate a better / more lucrative severance package on behalf of the employee. It could even possibly end up in the employer also agreeing to provide a positive reference in addition to higher compensation and other benefits in the form of a severance package.

Bees and honey

There are many facets and nuances to severance agreements and negotiations. If you have received a severance agreement or offer, I strongly suggest contacting an attorney with experience in severance negotiations as soon as possible.
